Real Estate Trade Show

Realtors often take time to attend Conventions and Trade Shows to stay current on what's going on in the industry - Here's what I learned at the 2009 Showcase held at the Cobb Galleria Center recently.

  • Our First Multiple Listing Service is rolling out a new program which will allow us to keep all documents involved in a transaction on line, and will keep them for 10 years.  It will also give limited access on line to those files to Buyers and Sellers, Lenders and others involved in the transaction.  Here's a step forward in record keeping and to a paperless future!
  • Although I already have a presence on social media websites like FaceBook, Twittr & Linkedin, I picked up many tips for improving and expanding my profile. An excellent panel discussed the social and business aspects of the different sites; how they had reconnected with old friends, college buddies and former work colleagues, and how they found new friends through shared interests.
  • The highlight for me was the speech by U. S. Senator Johnny Isakson, who is spearheading a proposal for a $15,000 Tax Credit for anyone who buys a home in the next year.  His latest effort was attached to the Cash For Clunkers bill on August 6th, and missed being approved by 6 votes!  We need this Bill to be passed by the Senate and the Congress.    The most affected part of the real estate market today is the "move-up" buyer.  Passage of this Bill would ease  home sales across the country and allow a transferee in Oklahoma to sell his home so that he can buy a home in Atlanta.

In addition, I visited several booths that gave me information to help upgrade some of my systems -- like a better IDX presence on my website.
